About Randy Rarick
Randy Rarick’s influence on the culture, industry, lifestyle, and sport of surfing is unparalleled. Setting aside his early accolades as a globetrotter (Randy has ridden waves in more than 70 countries), shaper, and competitor, the Oahu raised Rarick may be best known as a patriarch of professional surfing along with Fred Hemmings. They gave birth to the International Professional Surfers (IPS) world circuit before organized competition transitioned into the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) and eventual World Surf League (WSL) that we know in modern times. Randy is also the father of Hawaii’s Triple Crown of Surfing, which purists will argue is the most prestigious of competitions.
Not one to rest on his impressive laurels, Randy ushered his decades of experience in surfboard shaping, repair, and restoration into the first vintage surf auction series of its kind - the biennial Hawaiian Islands Vintage Surf Auction (HIVSA). Today, Rarick can be found working on special projects within his Sunset Beach home and shaping studio, unless of course the waves are firing at his favorite break.
